Brian Bezalel
Photography has taken me to some of the most extreme and remarkable places on Earth, from the frozen shores of the Arctic Ocean in Alaska to the massive Ross Ice Shelf in Antarctica. But for me, capturing a striking image is only the baseline. My ultimate goal is to inspire curiosity, share the science and history of our environment, and connect people to the incredible complexity of our world.
When I decided to share my art with the world, the standard "Brian Bezalel Photography" felt too boring. I wanted a name that reflected a deeper, educational purpose. Because my first name is constantly misspelled as "Brain," I chose to lean directly into the mistake and founded brainwork! art.
The name fits my mission perfectly. It represents artwork that requires intense focus during the creative process and encourages you, the viewer, to contemplate new ideas. For me, a visual image is only half the story. The context behind the shot is just as vital. That is why I use my captions and descriptions to share the deeper narrative, giving viewers a chance to learn something new about science, nature, or history.
Based in the dark sky country of New Zealand, I am constantly experimenting with diverse techniques to capture the world from unique perspectives. Whether I am shooting out of a helicopter for aerial shots, tracking deep-space targets through a telescope mount, or creating complex timelapses, infrared, or macro photography, I am always looking for creative ways to tell a story.
Beneath all of my work is a simple driving philosophy: Look Closer. Think Deeper. Explore More. It is a daily reminder to slow down, notice the fine details, and look at even the most familiar scenes with fresh eyes. There is so much out there waiting to be discovered, let's explore!
